Crawford Forensic Accounting 鶹 in Australia continued its highly successful lunch and learn virtual sessions on 15 July. This latest session, presented by Paul Boylan covered fraud and fidelity claims, with lots of interesting topics up for discussion - from the ‘fraud triangle’ and an overview of prevention, to detection and recovery.
Looking at both internal and external fraud, we highlighted profiles of fraudsters and the types of fraud committed and the importance of anti-fraud controls.
We also looked at the cost of fraud, revealing that the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners estimates organisations lose 5 percent of revenue to fraud each year – making it a really hot topic for carriers, brokers, and corporates. Our knowledge-sharing from the sharp end of the claims process is one tool to combat fraud.
With prevention high on the agenda, the session explored ways to prevent social engineering fraud, including how vital it is that employees are empowered with the knowledge and confidence to make appropriate challenges when their instincts tell them something isn’t right.
